PREPARING FOR BLEPHAROPLASTY

At the consultation, we will discuss whether this type of surgery is suitable based on your state of health. Some health problems (thyroid issues, high blood pressure, diabetes, dry eye syndrome) can increase the risk of complications. If necessary, we will ask you to consult an ophthalmologist before having surgery. Depending on your medical condition, pre-operative exams may be required.

BLEPHAROPLASTY: SURGERY

Blepharoplasty is a day surgery performed with local anesthesia and the option of sedation, which lasts approximately one hour.

RECOVERY AFTER BLEPHAROPLASTY

Blepharoplasty typically only causes very slight pain, which can be managed with prescribed medications. You will need to keep your head upright for the first few days at home. During the first 48 hours, you will need to apply cold packs to the eyes for 10 to 15 minutes every two hours to reduce swelling and the risk of bruising. If needed, you can use eye drops to soothe irritation. The small butterfly bandages on the incisions and will be removed along with the stitches at the first follow-up appointment, one week after the operation. As of the second week, you will be able to use water-based foundation to cover up traces of the surgery. You will have to avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatories and alcohol for two weeks after surgery, and physical activity should be avoided for the first three weeks.
